Partnership with the University of Dodoma, Tanzania
- Joint research opportunity

- Curriculum development
- Contact: Professor John Briggs
In Tanzania, our partnership is with a new public institution, the University of Dodoma, founded in 2007. The Dodoma collaboration reflects our traditional commitment to philanthropic activity – essentially a capacity building partnership at this stage, to aid this new university with its ambitious growth plans.
Joint development plans, with an emphasis on developing staff research capacity and curriculum development, have already attracted $3.8m from international funding agencies, with another major joint funding bid through the World Bank currently pending.
Our priorities for joint academic activity are nursing and sustainable energy, and as the University of Dodoma continues to grow, we will explore other areas of shared activity.
University of Glasgow staff have been working closely with staff at the University of Dodoma to prepare proposals for joint research. Areas of collaboration include the following areas:
- Health/social sciences on zoonotic diseases,
- Renewable energy (also with the University of Dar Es Salaam),
- Nursing science,
- Estates and buildings
- Physics curriculum development and support.
The University of Glasgow has a long history of engagement with Universities and Institutes in many low-income countries in the Global South and especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Glasgow Centre for International Development brings together the University's expertise to help develop and strengthen these partnerships.
In 2009, The University of Glasgow signed an Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Dodoma. The partnership with the Tanzanian university is part of Glasgow’s Internationalisation Strategy for Africa.
It has brought benefits to both institutions, for academics and students and is part of a strategy to build closer links to African institutions.
