Background
University of Glasgow signed an agreement with SWUFE in June 2009. SWUFE is one of the premier universities of Finance and Economics in China and is located in Chengdu, Sichuan province.
SWUFE is a highly successful partnership for the University of Glasgow. The institution is ranked among the top in its field in China and therefore represents a quality Strategic Partner for Glasgow. The partnership has been groundbreaking an innovative approach to student mobility and the partnership has potential to develop further, particularly in terms of research collaboration.
Major outcomes in this project include:
- Professor PENG Xue Mei, SWUFE School of Insurance spent one year as a Visiting Professor at School of Accounting and Finance,
- 12 students enrol in September 2009 – only three months after the agreement was signed,
- 1 out of an original 12 Study Abroad students decide to continue at University of Glasgow for masters in 2010,
- SWUFE President, FENG Xide, leads a delegation to the University of Glasgow in October 2009,
- 32 unconditional offers given for 2010 entry.
This agreement is very successful. The key benefits are:
- The first successful Study Abroad programme in China for the University of Glasgow,
- An innovative Study Abroad programme - for example, the Department of Accounting and Finance compiled a special programme for those Study Abroad students who wish to obtain exemptions from certain ACCA exams,
- Flexible articulation model to the number of students able to come to Glasgow - healthy international student recruitment numbers,
- Strong high-level support for the partnership,
- Potential for further research links.
