The Duke of Montrose
For more than half a century, the University of Glasgow field station on Loch Lomond has served the University and the wider community at a time when our requirement for greater understanding of environmental processes has expanded without precedent.
As a member of the local community, I am well aware of the importance of the scientific study of this richly endowed and yet fragile natural habitat for the successful management of Scotland's first national park and for informing the activities of local enterprises.
The field station is being developed into the new Scottish Centre for Ecology and the Natural Environment (SCENE) in order to continue to remain at the cutting edge of research and to be able to train future generations to tackle the environmental problems that face society.
I would urge you to join with me and support this important and unique development.
