The Law Fund
The School of Law at the University of Glasgow is one of the leading and most successful Law Schools in the UK. Nationally renowned for the quality of its undergraduate programmes, the School has also developed an international reputation for its postgraduate teaching and excellence in research.
However, we have ambitions to be much more. We aim to be among the top seven law schools in the UK, second to none in Scotland and among the top forty law schools globally. That is why we are launching the University of Glasgow Law Fund. We would like your help in realising our ambitions.
The Law Collections Appeal
The Law Collections Appeal is an initiative to support the Law Collections in the University of Glasgow Library. The University currently has a well-resourced law library, housed within the main University library building. However, like all other modern libraries, it feels the pressure exerted by the recent exponential increase in both the volume and the cost of legal material published, in print and online.Make A Donation
Increasing investment in our Law Collections will ensure that current and future law students at Glasgow will have access to the best educational resources available. It will also ensure that the law library continues to underpin the future of legal education, scholarship and practice in Glasgow and the West of Scotland for many years to come.
Every penny you donate to the Law Collections Appeal will be dedicated to improving the library's law collections. Your donations will be used solely to purchase new research texts and monographs across all areas of legal research and practice.
Since the appeal was launched, the generosity of our supporters has enabled us to purchase an impressive range of texts. Click here for the full list of Law Collections Appeal Acquisitions 2010-2011.
Tercentenary Scholarships Appeal
The Tercentenary Scholarships Fund has been established to mark the 300 year anniversary of the foundation of the Regius Chair of Civil Law at Glasgow. The Chair was granted by Queen Anne in 1713 and marked the beginning of the modern tradition of law teaching in the university.Make a Donation
To mark the occasion the School of Law would like to offer scholarships to provide opportunities for talented legal scholars to study for a PhD at Glasgow and to follow in the footsteps of such distinguished holders of the Chair as William Forbes, William Gloag and David Walker. Your donation to the Tercentenary Scholarships will help in providing these opportunities.
150 people giving £10 per month for 3 years amounts to £54,000 - a full scholarship that will enable a bright student to pursue a PhD, a qualification that is essential nowadays for someone seeking employment in a University.
Many overseas governments provide funding for doctoral scholarships but funding in the UK is exceptionally difficult meaning that our students find it extremely challenging to obtain support. These scholarships are essential to renew the younger generation of scholars who will continue the tradition of excellent teaching and researching law at Glasgow.
