On the right track

A group of railway workers produced a 'Calendar Girls' style 2011 calendar late last year and they have been inundated with requests to buy copies!  More than 15 staff got together at the Bo'Ness Railway Museum earlier this year to have their photos taken, and they made good use of all the strategically placed railway memorabilia!  William Stirling, the photographer, said "a few of our colleagues are suffering from cancer so the Beatson Pebble Appeal is a cause close to our hearts.  Sadly two of our colleagues, Alex Stenhouse and Brian Connelly, passed away recently and so it has made us even more determined to make this a success in their memories". 

Munro Climbing 

Connal Cochrane is one of our first £1000 challengers.  He climbed 100 Munros in memory of his mum.  Phyllis Cochrane died just over 5 years ago at the age of 59 following a prolonged battle against cancer.  Connal has decided to tackle the Munros to raise £1000 for the Beatson Pebble Appeal.  Connal said "I had been looking to do something personally to move forward in a positive way and my mum loved hillwalking.  It was me who got her enthusiastic about hill walking when I was in my teens.  I am looking forward to continuing with my challenge and I am pleased to be able to contribute to this really worthwhile campaign”. 

Cycling over the Alps

Susan Taylor and Graham Macnair cycled 500km over the Bavarian Alps in support of the Appeal.  Susan said “On the trip we didn't quite anticipate the exhaustion, on one occasion we fell asleep on the dining table before we were served our dinner!  On the last day we did about 130 kilometres, arrived at our final destination and then I fell off my bike and broke my foot!”  They managed to raise almost £2,000 and have been delighted at all the support they received from people.  However, the story didn’t quite end there; Susan says that they found the trip so amazing that they moved to Germany 5 months later!
