About the Appeal

The Beatson Pebble Appeal campaign to raise £10 million to build the Beatson Translational Cancer Research Centre (TCRC) reached its target in 2012 and the new centre is now complete.  Due to strong pulic support the Beatson Pebble Appeal will continue to provide support  of the exciting cancer research taking place in Glasgow.

The aim of the ongoing appeal is to provide the most up-to-date facilities and equipment, to help attract world-class cancer research scientists to drive the vital work taking place in Glasgow.

What do cancer scientist hope to achieve in Glasgow?

The Beatson TCRC is the final piece of the overarching strategy of cancer research and care in Glasgow. The Centre is purpose designed and built to accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into improved outcomes for people affected by cancer and to help define the key research questions of the future.

The new Centre supports the broader vision of cancer scientist in Glasgow; to be in a position to treat cancer patients individually, with customised drugs, targeted treatments and diagnostic options that are less toxic and more effective.

With the facilities now in place in Glasgow we are well on our way to achieving our vision. Cancer services in Glasgow serve over 60% of the Scottish population. With a wealth of experience in cancer research and a high incidence of the disease the city is strategically important in the fight against cancer.
