The University of Glasgow has many connections to countries in the Commonwealth.

Did you know...?

• 162 of our staff come from Commonwealth countries outside the UK: 40 are from India; 33 from Canada; 25 from Australia; 13 from Malaysia; 9 from Nigeria; 7 from each of Pakistan and South Africa; 6 from Singapore; 4 from Cyprus; 3 from each of Bangladesh and Malta; 2 from each of New Zealand, Kenya, Sri Lanka and Jamaica; and 1 from each of Ghana, Barbados, the Bahamas and the Seychelles.
• We are in touch with University of Glasgow alumni in 48 of the 53 Commonwealth countries outside the UK. There are 7839 of them, ranging from 1 in each of Belize, Namibia, Tonga, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu to 1543 in Canada. We even have 4 alumni in St Kitts & Nevis, whose population is only 52,000.
• 1684 of our current students are from Commonwealth countries outside the UK, ranging from 1 from each of Belize, Fiji, Grenada, Namibia, Sierra Leone and Vanuatu to 412 from Singapore.
• Glasgow has a distinguished tradition of educating students who have gone on to Commonwealth competition or officialdom, from the 1930 Games in Hamilton, Ontario to the 2010 Games in Delhi. Some of our students may have entered competitive sport after leaving the University, of course, so if you know of anyone we have missed, please do let us know by emailing enquiries@archives.gla.ac.uk. 
• At the University, there are currently 18 students or recent graduates who are being considered for competitive places at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014. Watch this space...!
