Frequently asked questions
Consultation Process
- How can I make my views know and will they be taken into account?
You can attend the consultation events which will be taking place during 2013 and provide written comments and/or speak to members of the team who will take a note of your comments. All responses will be considered as part of the consultation process and a consultation report will be written after each event to provide feedback on the key themes and suggestions.
- Will you abide by the views received? What mechanism is there to check whether you are genuinely listening?
The consultation is expected to be as extensive as possible. We anticipate a diverse range of responses and ideas. We aim to take on board as many suggestions as possible however some ideas may not be feasible or appropriate at this time. The consultation process will be open, transparent and all key information will be made publically available. A feedback process will be in place to provide a response on ideas to be taken forward and a response on why some suggestions or ideas are potentially not appropriate at this stage.
- Where can I find out more information?
You can review this website where regular news updates will be provided. Information will also be shared using communications channels such as Campus News, Principal's podcasts etc
- Who will be involved in making the decisions on how the campus will be developed?
We aim to allow everyone to input into the process through an exchange of ideas and suggestions. The final decisions will be taken by University Court and through discussions with external stakeholders such as Glasgow City Council.
Estates Strategy
- Does it mean we will be selling off lots of buildings?
It is possible that some existing buildings may not be strategically required by the University in the future for a variety of reasons. Creating a sustainable, flexible and attractive campus are key priorities and some of our buildings require significant investment to meet these aspirations. No decisions have been made on any buildings at this point but all buildings will be reviewed.
- Who decides what stays and goes from the existing campus?
University Court will make the final decision on the estates strategy.
- Why is the University choosing to expand?
The University may ultimately not expand in size as the campus could be rationalised in order to build new properties on the western infirmary site. This will allow brand new state of the art facilities and a reduction in the number of challenging, inefficient buildings.
Development
- Will there be more car parking spaces as there are not enough on campus at the moment?
Car parking will be one of the key areas to be reviewed due to its impact on the campus. It is unlikely that more parking spaces will be provided as the university hopes to further implement its Strategic Travel Plan.
- What will the new Western Infirmary site be used for?
There are no firm plans for the Western Infirmary site at this point. The Campus Development Framework will seek to lay the guiding principles for future development and more detailed masterplans will be prepared as and when development requirements are confirmed.
